I got the information from CNN when we were watching in class. George Clooney was encouraging people to help out Darfur.

As the director of global expansion to the store Ten Thousand Villages I would suggest having a celebrity endorse our business, and spread the word about helping third world countries. All of our products come from the third world countries and the majority of the profits go to providing them the necessities of life and more. A celebrity endorsement would not be difficult to get because of the good cause and it would greatly boost business.

I read a CNN news article "Commentary:Why Obama should be upbeat- and worried". The article encourages the American government to address the rising global economic threat, as means to protect the future of America. We must tread carefully, as the world is financially interconnected. I chose Shell Oil as my company. As Director of Global Expansion, I would advise my company to be cautious, as trade tensions around the world are peaking. It is also not helpful that oil markets are collapsing as we speak. It is important to keep up to date with currency arrangements, and financial regulations as these are bound to change, and not for the better. It is also crucial to look at the global consumption of oil, and how that will affect prices of crude oil, as well as our buying power. Right now is a very difficult time where oil distributors/companies are concerned.

Title:New Tax Tips for businesses
Source:Aol.com
http://smallbusiness.aol.com/article/_a/new-tax-tips-for-businesses/20090224171009990001.

Summary: Make sure your business is using every tax deduction possible in these tough times. To stimulate business growth the government has tax deduction on many taxes. There is the standard mileage rate where u will be reimbursed any budsiness driving related trips since gas prices have been so bad. Also, the deferred compensation rate can be held of to be payed at a later time if the tax in the bold print says you can wait to pay it. The work opportunity tax credit will give more deductions to rural workers and veteransm and finally the self employment tax has rose.

This qualifies to my business The Grand Lux Cafe because this is a new pricey restaurant and knowing tax reductions will help keep them in business during the hard times of the economy. Also it i important to know any tax reductions because in the future the Grand Lux Cafe may expand out of Colorado or even globally so knowing taxes can keep the business funancially stable and booming.

As Director of Global Expansion for McDonalds, i would advise the company to expand more nationally than internationally during this time. With the new stimulus package, interest rates are going to be at an all time high and people will be will want fast food that is cheaper and that is what McDonalds does. They allow a decent amount of food for just a dollar known as the dollar menu. So all in all expanding in the United States while the economy is in a total crises would be the best for not only the country but for the business of McDonald's.

I am the director of the Denver rescue mission in Downtown Denver with the new and improved stimulus and heath care plan that is being set by President Obama this will help unfortunate individuals and or groups of people not having to pay as much because of there lower class status. This will benefit the Denver rescue because it is volunteer based organization and with fewer people requiring the assistance of everyday needs it give volunteers more opportunities to expand as well as the company. Because these people are being helped, it also proves that the company has mad an impact on the community with its assistance. Although the company will not receive as many people, it will still benefit both community and company, because it creates new opportunities for the company to expand and ways to help.

I watched a story from CNNMoney.com called "Energy from Trash." They investigated one of the 87 plants here in the United States that burns trash in boilers to produce clean and renewable energy and electricity. They said that the average American throws away 1 ton of garbage every year. The trash is burned at landfills and Covanta energy owns the majority of these plants. Furthermore, as Director of Global Expansion, I would advise my company to support the cause of making the world a cleaner place. Getting energy from waste is less harmful to our world, because the fumes of fossil fuels are limited. Also, waste is not a scarce item because everyone produces it. Oil has become very expensive for the reason that it is very scarce and limited. Covanta energy supports the go-green cause and can help up to 70,000 homes. I would advise my Covanta workers to tell our customers the benefits of energy from waste and how it is better and cheaper than the alternative routes we have previously taken in the United States.

For my company The Cheesecake Factory, i would advise them to do what this website said, by making there website more attractive to the average eye. Make it so everyone can understand what to do and where to go. This would benefit my company because it will make more people want to come since the website is so interesting. Also change the food recipes for the different sections of the country/world. Change flavors of food, color of restaurant to attract new customers to come.

As Director of Global Business for Google, I would suggest expanding internationally, but especially in Europe, due to the positive advantage they have over Microsoft during these times. Microsoft has been brought charges for abusing its dominant market position, so Google should take the initiative and expand in advertising so that more users will use the Google system, and therefore will make more profit.

This article about global business shows how hard our economy is being hit by the recession. Micron technology's, one of millions of businesses laying people off, has released 2,000 people. Spansion, on the other hand, is laying off 3,000 people. They are doing this because they need money, costing $25 million to cut all these people, but would gain them $225 million in the end. The problem with this is that people need jobs and need to be spending money in order for the recession to slow and eventually go away.
As the director of my company, Noodles & Company, i would not cut people because the main employment class i use is teenagers. Plus, being in the food industry, the company is not hit as hard by the recession because people need to eat, meaning there will always be a hungry customer coming in and out. Worst case scenario i would make cuts on food supply, for instance, make servings just a bit smaller, therefore, it adds up quite frequently, in the long run saving the company a decent wad of cash. Also, I would choose to raise the prices, and cut ours to our employees. As long as they have the job there are not many worries, a few less hours does not hurt the average teen and it gives them more free time. Overall this would benefit my company because it would not only save a lot of money, it would allow all employees to keep their jobs so they can have that bit of support.

I read an article on CNN.com concerning online conferencing versus traveling conferences. In the article it discusses how companies often risk losing money or rescheduling expensive business trips. These risks are often astronomically expensive for companies, and can cause business deals to fall through. The new online conferencing technology allows companies to "meet" with companies abroad without ever traveling to the location. It is also relatively inexpensive, costing only $500 per year. The article provides information about different web services and comparisons to help companies find an ideal fit.

As the director of global expansion for Brooks Athletics, an athletic shoe and clothing company, I would utilize this information to help cut travel expenses to locations where the corporation has already been established. I would also use this technology as a way to promote Brooks' ability to deal with international partners. The ability to conference without the expenses of hosting delegates/sending delegates could be potentially appealing to companies trying to save money. I would be very careful in using this technology, however, because many cultures prefer to establish personal, face-to-face relations.

I read a cnn article about the price of crude oil going up because the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co is limiting its supply and exports to some places like Asia. It also says that OPEC will be cutting its quotas by as much as 4 million barrels per day. OPEC is responsible for providing 40% of the worlds crude oil supply.
As the Director of Global Expansion i would advise my company to limit international business until the price of oil becomes stable because it would raise the price of trading overseas with the rising fuel costs. Also to try and improve relations with the OPEC countries to help with the oil shortage and make sure our company has enough.

Kyle Cartwright
I read a article on business week about how people are getting laid off and there are around 667,000 people apply for unemployment every week. and they are waiting for the end of february to see what the unemployment rate has climbed up too.

This effects discount tire in positive and negative ways. the way that it effects us negatively is that we have to lay off alot of people, people dont have jobs and cant buy tires so we dont have as much of a income. This means discount tire cannot expand and we cant make our maximum profit. But a positive thing is people will always need tires so we will always stay alive. So thats why there are goods and bads about people losing there jobs.

As the new CEO for apple, I believe our company should try to adapt to the recession by making more affordable and user friendly products. These days nearly every young or middle age American owns an ipod. But what about the people who live in other countries and cannot afford ipods. We should expand our market more to many other places throughout the world. Right now people in America do not have the money to spend on an ipod but in many other countries that are developing extremly fast, there is a lot of potential to sell our products here. Now for America we need to start making a new affordable iphone. Many people throughout the country already have the iphone but with the recession and the new stimulus package being put into effect more people will have more money to spend. If we allow iphone users to have more options such as choose which carrier they want to have, this will cause more phones to sell.

I read a CNN article titled "Japan posts record trade deficit". It talks about how Japan has the largest trade deficit they've had in 23 years. It talks about how their exports are down along with their imports and they are in debt to most Asian countries and the U.S. As the director of global expansion of Nike, I would suggest not trading with Japan for the time being and wait until they improve their economic system and their trade levels even out, but I wouldn't count on that being any time soon. Japan has the largest rate of decline since they began recording the economic figures which was in 1980. The Economic and Fiscal Policy Minister in Japan, Kaoru Yosano, said that Japan is the the worst economic crisis (recession) that they've been in post-war. I would be worried that if we did trade with Japan, that we would lose money and possibly not get paid how we should, so altogether I would advise not to do business with Japan.

I read an article called "Toyota seeks government loan" on cnn.com. It is all about how Toyota applied for a $2.1 billion loan from the Japanese government. Toyota said it is only to keep the company competitive with other car companies by cutting funding costs as the global crisis tightens.
If I was in charge of this operation I wouldn't panic because Toyota is in a better position than its other competitors. I wouldn't change much besides cutting production if we really needed to. It might not be a bad idea to be patient and wait this crisis out until the economy recovers.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/03/russia.letter.nuclear.iran/index.html

This artical on CNN talks about Obama and our current relations with Russia. Obama sent a letter to the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, talking about a lot of issues, one of those issures is nuclear proliferation and terrorism, Obama stated "What I said in the letter was that, obviously, to the extent that we are lessening Iran's commitment to nuclear weapons, then that reduces the pressure for -- or the need for -- a missile defense system,"

Also interviewed in the article was the Defense Secretary Robert Gates, he stated the United States was willing to 'reboot' their relationship with Russia. He also stated that "I told the Russians a year ago that if there were no Iranian missile threat, that there would be no need for the [missile defense system] in Europe,"

Once the Russian President reads and responds to his letter, hopefully positively, we can expand even farther with our economy into Russia. Russia has been a no zone, much like Cuba. If our relationship changes with Russia we can be sure to be seeing more expansion of our companies and coorperations into Russia. Although their type of economy could be difficult to get by.

The article "GM is running on fumes" by Chris Isidore on CNNMoney.com describes how General Motors domestic sales have completely dried up on them, and they are having to rely on alternative methods to make revenue. These alteranative methods include money from government stimulus packages, the sales of more simple cars, and foreign profits.
If I was the director of global expansion for General Motors, my job could very soon become vital to the survival of my company. If the situation for GM does not immediatly improve, they will be looking for any source of income that could keep them afloat, and the primary one of those sources may have to be international sales. Right now, I would immediatly begin integrating GM's cars into foreign countries around the globe, because if the axe really falls on GM, I will be prepared to do whatever I can to ensure the financial future, both dometically and internationally of my company.

I got the story from CNN, and it was talking about how a bunch of airlines are reducing their flights to different places, mainly because of businesses cutting their travel budgets, but also because less people of traveling for leisure.

As the director of global expansion to the United Airlines, I would advise the company to try to make deals and discounts with each individual business, so that when they do travel, they use our airline. Even if we lose money at first it will pay of in the future since businesses would become more loyal to us if we offer them better prices in a time of struggle.

The article I found was from earthtimes.org, the article says that U.S multinational companies are strengthening the domestic economy by increasing productivity, job growth, and compensating for workers. As director of global expansion I would encourage to keep expanding our business, to gain more revenue for our company.

i got this story from cnn.com and it is about president obama helping out the small businesses in america.

President obama is trying to help out these small businesses by freeing up some of the frozen credit markets. This would help out the businesses as well as the overall economy by creating more goods for consumers to buy and this would also help create some jobs since more money would be flowing through these small businesses.

I got my information from cnn.com where it was stated that the economy of china had picked up fairly drastically from February to March, thanks to its trade-driven economy. Although trade still totals to be 17 percent lower than it was in March a year ago, a 25 billion dollar increase from the previous month is a more comforting sign.

As director of global expansion for apple technologies, i would recommend increasing trade with the country of China while they are successful in the business market, and work more closely with a nation that is slowing recovering or at least somewhat withstanding the recession for increased sales that will bring in a higher profit. Business ties between the U.S. and China could strongly benefit both countries by creating greater revenue.

I watched CNN and heard about what is happening in Somalia with the pirates.

As the director of global expansion the pirates are a huge threat to trading in the area. If the pirates take control of US ships all of the goods and people on board will be seized. Since it is such a big threat traders want to stop using the red sea and water routes around it to avoid capture. It is a good idea to either equip the ships with protection or have escorts to make sure the products get through safely.

I read the article about how Endeavor is prepared to launch in days as a rescue mission to Atlantis in case of an emergency because of the low orbit it is in.

As the director of global expansion for NASA it is a risky move because it must cost billions of dollars in preparation for the Atlantis mission and almost the same amount to prepare Endeavor for its in case of emergency rescue mission. also it must cost a lot of money a day to keep Endeavor prepped for launch. It is also important that NASA actually cares about their assets and employees, this way they gain more popular support helping their economic condition.
